Chiropractic: Chiropratic is for kids too!

Rapid Release in Babylon, British Columbia

Dr. Amdur has been caring for children since he began in chiropractic.  Many of our patients were under care as children and now they bring their children to see Dr. Amdur.

We understand the challenges a parent has to go through to keep their child healthy.  When your child is sick it can turn your world upside down.  Dr. Amdur has had over 25 years working with children and treats children with the most up to date and gentle chiropractic care available.

Dr. Amdur has five children of his own so he understands how hard it can be raising children and keeping them healthy.

Dr. Amdur uses specialized techniques that involve gentle reflex adjustments that allow the child’s body to begin to correct itself.  Many of our parents bring their children in to help decrease the frequency of ear infections, decrease asthmatic symptoms, infantile colic, and sports injuries.

Dr. Amdur also specializes in care for children with Autism, ADD, and ADHD.  There are many factors involved with these children and balancing the nervous system is vital for these children to begin to heal and improve in brain function.  Dr. Amdur has adapted several techniques to handle even the most severe patient.  We understand that often times the autistic child may be afraid and difficult to manage in a doctor’ office, Dr. Amdur has a way of keeping them calm and is able to apply very gentle chiropractic care. Often times after receiving an adjustment even the most severe autistic patient walks out calmer and more balanced.

The children that come in for care are excited to see the doctor and can’t wait for their next adjustment.  Many of our current patients were under care with Dr. Amdur when they were children and now they bring their children in to see Dr. Amdur.

Chiropractic is extremely beneficial in all children and here at Amdur Chiropractic your child will be treated like one of the family!

Why an adjustment is done

The brain controls all functions within the body.

  • It communicates to the rest of the body by sending messages down the spinal cord.

  • Within the spine, there are 24 movable vertebrae as well as 8-9 vertebrae (the sacrum and coccyx) that fuse later in life and are considered non-moveable in the adult spine.

  • These vertebrae also serve the purpose of providing bony protection for the delicate neurons of the spinal cord.

  • At every vertebral level, pairs of nerves separate off like branches off a tree trunk and travel to all the organs and joints of the body carrying messages from the brain. Like a water hose, if you pinch it off at the source of the hose, water will not get all the way to the end.

  • If there is a problem at the brain or vertebral level of the spinal cord, the message cannot effectively get to where it is supposed to go. This can result in a decline in health as well as negatively impact the immune system.

With pediatric chiropractic, we apply very gentle, low-amplitude adjustments to guide the vertebrae into the right position and restore normal nerve and blood flow as well as increase joint motion. Our doctors have taken additional years of training in pediatric chiropractic to know just the right amount of force to apply to adjust a child but not hurt them.

Chiropractic was developed in 1895 by Daniel David Palmer. He found that by working with the spine to remove fixations, could also give substantial pain relief. While Chiropractic has been predominately used as a way to relieve neck and back pain, it has also become a way of pursuing health and well being for many. Chiropractic is and should be part of every person's overall health regimen. By creating better motion in the spine, it helps the joints of the spine stay healthier longer and delays the onset of the degenerative processes that often affect the spine.

What Is A Subluxation

A Subluxation is a chiropractic term that refers to a misalignment of the vertebrae, generally of a minor nature. In essence, a vertebra that is not properly aligned with the other vertebrae creates pressure on or stretches the nerves in the spinal cord and the nerves around the spine. This increases the likelihood that nerve signals will not be transmitted properly and can cause pain. Subluxations, cervical or otherwise, can have a number of causes, including trauma from an automobile accident, falling, poor lifting techniques and bad posture.
